Symmetry

My art teacher in middle school, Mr. Thomas, was the first to recognize my lack of artistic ability. This was right before Mr. Garret, the music teacher, noticed the same lack of musical talent, but that is a story for another day. My lack of talent was mostly due to my lack of effort, but my lack of coordination did not help. I did still learn a lot from Mr. Thomas, like when he said that symmetry is beauty. Faces that we perceive to be beautiful are the ones that are most symmetrical.

The crazy thing about our bodies is that we aren’t normally symmetrical, and the difference between the left and right sides can sometimes cause us problems. It’s not uncommon for someone to tell me that they have a “good side” and/or a “bad side”. This may be due to the way we develop and grow, but it also is because of our actions. Walk yourself through your typical morning. What way do you get out of bed? Is it always to the same side? What leg do you wash first in the shower? Is it always the same one? Which hand holds your toothbrush? Your coffee mug? The steering wheel? We favor one side a lot more than we notice, and over time that creates an imbalance.

Chiropractic is a great way to treat that imbalance. The adjustments help mobilize the joint that is constantly only moving in one direction, and the muscle work that we do helps balance out the tissues around those joints. Give us a call and let us help balance you out.
